The Atypical Family: Episode 4 Summary

Episode 4 begins with a scene where Do Da-hae (Chun Woo-hee) is rescued from danger, leaving Bok Gwi-ju (Jang Ki-yong) amazed at her return.

While returning home, Um Soon-goo (O Man-seok) who coincidentally witnesses Gwi-ju regaining his supernatural abilities, investigates ancestral records with him and confirms that when he meets his proper match, his seemingly insignificant abilities become powerful.

Meanwhile, Gwi-ju encounters Da-hae, caught off guard by seeing his reflectionless self in a mirror upstairs, coming downstairs in surprise. He could suspect that she met himself from the future again.

Bok Dong-hee (Claudia Kim) confirms that Da-hae put sleeping pills in the tea for Bok Man-heum (Go Doo-shim).

When Man-heum mentions having seen Da-hae coming out of the Gungjeon (meaning "palace") Sauna in a dream, the startled Da-hae hurries to the Gungjeon Sauna. Following Da-hae, who was being pursued, Gwi-ju finds Da-hae and Baek Il-hong (Kim Geum-sun) together in the sauna, breaking through Noh Hyung-tae (Choi Gwang-rok)'s obstruction. However, due to Hyung-tae activating the fire alarm, Gwi-ju has to leave the sauna without the chance to ask any questions.

As Da-hae is transported to the hospital in an ambulance, just like the scene Man-heum saw in her dream, it's revealed that Da-hae's father's death left her owing money to Il-hong, leading her to scam people. Il-hong urges Da-hae to bring a marriage certificate with Gwi-ju quickly.

On the way back from the hospital, Gwi-ju begins to regain his abilities due to Da-hae's appearance. Still, he mentions that his abilities only manifest in Da-hae. Finally, Da-hae, who starts to believe that the Bok family indeed has supernatural abilities, locks herself in her room to ponder over a plan.

At the end of deep thought, Da-hae goes to find Gwi-ju and presents him with a marriage certificate, claiming it's from him, the one who came from the future. When Gwi-ju is reluctant to believe easily, Da-hae mentions that thirteen years ago, during the Seonjae Girls High School fire incident where fire station chief Jeong sacrificed himself instead of Gwi-ju and died, she was also there. She suspects that the person who saved her was Gwi-ju trying to sway his heart.

Da-hae confronts Gwi-ju with the marriage certificate, claiming it's from his future self. Surprised, Gwi-ju leans in and kisses her, saying, "If you went through all this trouble, it must mean I've fallen for you. Let's see what the future holds, shall we?"

The Atypical Family: Episode 3 Summary

Bok Gwi-ju (Jang Ki-yong) is surprised that he can reach and talk to Do Da-hae (Chun Woo-hee), and he wonders if he can travel to other time periods. However, every attempt leads him only to Da-hae’s location. Frustrated, he confronts Da-hae, but she is just as clueless. Bok Man-heum (Go Doo-shim) asks Da-hae to move into the Bok family house and live with them.

Later, Gwi-ju meets Da-hae at a prearranged location. Reflecting on the past, he remembers the day Bok I-na (Park So-yi) was born. On that day, the fire station captain took over Gwi-ju’s duties and tragically died in a school fire. Gwi-ju longs to return to that happier past when I-na was born. He finds that the only door in the hospital room he can touch and open is colored, leading him to believe he can change things. However, it is impossible. The most painful part is that even when he doesn’t want to, he is suddenly transported to that place, marking the beginning of days filled with suffering.

Unable to continue his firefighting work and trapped in this cycle for seven years, Gwi-ju’s wife grows exhausted. She warns him not to come back if he leaves again, saying she won’t be there. Despite this, Gwi-ju is unwillingly transported once more. Returning to her, he finds her in a state of despair from a car accident.

Meanwhile, a group of con artists aims to manage the wealth of the Bok family as legal guardians, with Da-hae playing a crucial role. Their goal is to seize assets worth over 50 billion won.

When Da-hae enters the Bok family house, she is shocked that Gwi-ju doesn’t remember giving her flowers and hugging her. He, equally confused, realizes it was his future self who had done these things.

In the dance club, Hye-rim, a classmate of I-na, approaches the girl and tries to touch her glasses, but I-na feels uncomfortable and tells her not to touch them. (I-na has feelings for a boy named Jun-woo.)

Bok Dong-hee (Claudia Kim) wakes up from a dream about her glory days. When real estate agents come to see her house, she is alarmed and goes to her mother, learning that they have to sell the house because of financial problems caused by Man-heum’s failed stock investments.

Da-hae catches wind of a conversation, secretly records it, and then tips off Baek Il-hong (Kim Geum-sun) about it.

Da-hae then approaches I-na and grooms her eyebrows. When their eyes meet, I-na reads Da-hae’s mind, hearing her refer to herself as the key. Confused, I-na walks away, asking if she is the key to a 50 billion won building. Da-hae is startled, wondering if I-na can read minds.

At school, Hye-rim approaches I-na again, causing her glasses to fall off. Jun-woo hands them back, and I-na hears him think she is pretty. This leads I-na to join the dance club.

Meanwhile, Grace (Ryu Abel) approaches Dong-hee’s boyfriend and kisses him in front of her. Witnessing that scene, Dong-hee feels nauseous and agrees when her boyfriend suggests that they should take some time apart.

During a meal with Da-hae and I-na, Gwi-ju is distracted by Da-hae. Afterward, he goes to throw out the food waste and ends up traveling to the past again, where he sees Da-hae. He begins to think that Da-hae might be the one to save him and his daughter, but believes the only way to save Da-hae is to push her away. Determined, he resolves not to hug or give flowers to her, but the situation doesn’t go as planned.

In the present, Da-hae tries to give Man-heum tea spiked with sleeping pills, but Bok-hee arrives with her luggage, so Da-hae drinks the tea herself. Fighting the drowsiness, Da-hae follows Bok-hee and sees her trying to take things from the house. Startled by seeing Bok-hee levitate, Da-hae flees.

Upstairs, Gwi-ju catches her as she stumbles, but Da-hae is horrified when she realizes Gwi-ju’s reflection doesn’t appear in the mirror. The scene ends with Da-hae in shock.
