The Atypical Family: Episode 8 Summary

Bok Man-heum (Go Doo-shim) keeps having repetitive prophetic dreams, but they are never clear.

Bok Gwi-ju (Jang Ki-yong) wants to spend happy moments with Do Da-hae (Chun Woo-hee) and negotiates with con artists, promising them the ability to steal the future. Grace (Ryu Abel) suggests revealing the secrets of the family with superpowers to the media to make a lot of money quickly.

Gwi-ju: "If you want to kill the goose that lays golden eggs for just a few eggs, go ahead."

Da-hae: "It's my time. It sounds easy to say you'll give me time, but does that mean you can trample all over my time whenever you need it? I don't want to be used, ever."

Despite developing feelings for Gwi-ju, Da-hae pushes him away. She tells him that the time they spent together was meaningless because he was deceived by scams and that he should find other meaningful happy times. Da-hae criticizes Gwi-ju, saying it's typical arrogance of those with superpowers to want to save people who are worse off.

Gwi-ju travels to the past and gets injured rescuing a cat on his first day as an EMT. At the hospital, he sees Da-hae attending her father's funeral. Baek Il-hong (Kim Geum-sun) makes a deal with Da-hae to pay off her father's debt. Gwi-ju silently comforts Da-hae by holding her shoulder, and she finally breaks into tears.

Bok Dong-hee (Claudia Kim) discovers that it was Grace who pushed her.

Dong-hee: "So it was you. You pushed me!"

To make Da-hae happy, Gwi-ju goes to buy her a special Patbingsu, an ice dessert, with Noh Hyung-tae (Choi Gwang-rok). Sneaking back to the past, he gives Da-hae the dessert. She recalls the time when, as a hungry student, an old lady bought her bread and ice dessert after catching her stealing bread.

Da-hae: "I had to sell my misery to become a little bit happy. So I'm confused. Was it a miserable time or a happy time?"

Da-hae says that she acknowledges what that day 13 years ago meant to Gwi-ju but she wasn't grateful for surviving. Living with nothing made her life tough.

Da-hae: "I want to vent my anger for saving me."

Da-hae asks Gwi-ju to return a ring, which is a keepsake from the person who saved her 13 years ago, to the bereaved family at the Bok family house.

Da-hae: "Is this what having superpowers is like? Did I go back to the past? Or have I never been able to move on from it?"

Gwi-ju gives Da-hae a lottery ticket with this week's winning numbers worth 2.3 billion won, telling her to use it to pay off Il-hong's debt.

Gwi-ju: "Stop selling your misery. If you have to sell something, sell happiness from now on."

Grace helps Dong-hee reconnect with her plastic surgeon boyfriend, but he is only interested in the 50 billion won building he will receive upon marriage. As Dong-hee struggles with an extreme diet to regain her ability to fly, Grace, feeling sorry for her, promises to help her lose weight and get married, proposing they split the 50 billion won building.

Da-hae asks Man-heum to keep Gwi-ju away from her. She warns that dealing with Il-hong will endanger not only Gwi-ju but the entire Bok family. She gives the winning lottery ticket to Man-heum.

Gwi-ju discovers that the ring Da-hae mentioned as a keepsake from her rescuer is identical to one in the Bok family safe. Realizing there are two identical rings, Gwi-ju shows one to Da-hae.

Gwi-ju: "Is this it? The keepsake from the person who saved you. Did that person give you this ring? Did you see his face?"

Da-hae: "The rescuer was wearing something over his face. He slipped the ring on my finger and asked me to keep it safe."
