Queen of Tears: Episode 5 Recap

Why did Hae-in and Hyun-woo, a couple married for three years, start sleeping in separate rooms?

When Hae-in collapses and disappears, she feels the warmth of family as her in-laws search for her in the rain, wearing only raincoats. The scene where her mother-in-law finally sees her face and says, "Oh, my baby," is heartwarming and affectionate.

Despite being married, Hae-in and Hyun-woo are distant and find it awkward to share the same room. However, Hyun-woo helps Hae-in dry her hair when she struggles with a broken hairdryer and puts a bandage on her injured leg, creating a moment reminiscent of the early, thrilling days of their relationship.

Sensing an unusual atmosphere, Hyun-woo hurriedly leaves the room. He grapples with his conflicting feelings of wishing his wife were dead and his genuine affection for her.

The whole village throws a party for Hae-in's arrival, treating her to a massive feast with every kind of meat imaginable. Hae-in digs in with gusto, and someone films the whole thing, uploading it to social media. You should see the look on Hae-in's mom's face when she sees the video!

Hyun-woo drinks with his brother, reflecting on the past. He is deeply disappointed when Hae-in, without consulting him, immediately cleared out the baby’s room after their loss, not giving him time to grieve. This leads to his decision to sleep in separate rooms.

Hae-in was also in pain from losing their child. She intended to avoid getting stuck in sorrow by constantly seeing the baby's room and instead focus on reality, but to Hyun-woo, she seemed cold and indifferent.

Determined to oust Hyun-woo from the Queens Family, Eun-sung begins sowing discord between himself and Hae-in. Hyun-woo grows increasingly annoyed and distrustful of Eun-sung's constant excuses to stay close to Hae-in.

Under the same sky, Seul-hee and Beom-ja remain bitter rivals, their relationship still shrouded in ambiguity. Beom-ja sees Seul-hee, her father's live-in partner, as a cunning vixen who has ousted her mother and claimed her father's affection. From Seul-hee's perspective, Beom-ja is a wildcat, constantly glaring at her and never leaving her father, Chairman Man-dae's side. "Who knows what you put in my father's food!" she accuses.

Hae-in is devastated to hear that there is no known medical treatment for her condition. On her way out of the hospital, she meets a man who delivers fresh juice to her company and subscribes to 250 bottles of juice when she hears that his baby is very sick.

Still upset with Hyun-woo after the Yongdu-ri incident, Hae-in tries to distance herself from him. Seizing this opportunity, Eun-sung stays close to her.

During a hospital visit, Hae-in unexpectedly runs into her aunt Beom-ja, who is leaving after treating an injured arm. Beom-ja overhears Hae-in's conversation with her doctor and learns that Hae-in has a diffuse glioma. Despite her typically tough exterior, Beom-ja offers comforting words to Hae-in. Later, she calls to check up on a friend who had the same illness, only to break down in tears upon hearing of their passing.

Spending time with his close friend Yang-gi, Hyun-woo once again finds himself thinking of Hae-in and sheds tears, reaching a moment of clarity.

Clinging to a sliver of hope, Hae-in goes to a medical center in Germany, but the test results show that her condition is 'incurable.' Facing the prospect of waiting for her death, Hae-in revisits the destination of their honeymoon alone. There, unexpectedly, she encounters her husband.

Hyun-woo appears, carrying sneakers for Hae-in, who has collapsed from exhaustion on the steps.

Hae-in: “Who said you couldn’t stay? I wanted you by my side! I didn’t want to be alone. I always did.”
