The Atypical Family: Episode 5 Summary

Do Da-hae (Chun Woo-hee) is anxious about Bok Gwi-ju (Jang Ki-yong) believing in the fake marriage certificate she created, fearing it might be exposed at any moment. She also worries about the superpowered family finding out about her.

Meanwhile, Gwi-ju is tormented by constant thoughts of the moment he kissed Da-hae. Sleepless, he confronts Da-hae in the morning as she tries to enter the Bok family’s vault alone and takes her away.

Da-hae repeatedly asks Gwi-ju to marry her, but he rejects her advances. When he downplays the significance of their kiss, Da-hae slaps him.

Bok Man-heum (Go Doo-shim) suspects his daughter Bok Dong-hee (Claudia Kim) of stealing her watch, but she denies it and suspects Da-hae instead. However, the family discovers the marriage certificate.

With the family's awareness of the marriage, Gwi-ju suggests having a formal meeting between the families before their wedding. Man-heum, noticing Da-hae's odd behavior, orders his husband to investigate her background. Realizing Da-hae is being investigated, Baek Il-hong (Kim Geum-sun) tries to make the first move and contacts Man-heum.

Meanwhile, it’s revealed that Man-heum's watch was given to Hye-rim by Bok I-na (Park So-yi), who also lends her shoes after reading Hye-rim's mind who thought her shoes were pretty. Da-hae, seeing I-na return home in slippers, reminisces about her school days. I-na likes Hye-rim, her first real friend, but Hye-rim's behavior is not exactly friendly. Da-hae suspects that I-na might be being bullied.

Grace, after Dong-hee protects her from a sexual predator, shares drinks and food with her, but her slip of the tongue makes Dong-hee suspicious. At home, Man-heum begins to distance herself from Da-hae.

Gwi-ju keeps bringing up the fire incident and then disappears before Da-hae. He realizes that Da-hae's inability to speak about it is because the memory is too painful. He returns to the moment of their kiss, only to see I-na stealing Man-heum's watch.

Da-hae goes to I-na’s school with slippers and overhears kids saying that Hye-rim treats I-na like a servant. Seeing Hye-rim wearing Man-heum’s watch and I-na's shoes, she takes Hye-rim aside for a talk. However, I-na, knowing that Da-hae is a fraud who is trying to become the legal representative of the Bok family by defending Hye-rim, instead blackmails Da-hae. Da-hae is shocked that I-na can read her entire mind.

Da-hae calls her uncle, Noh Hyung-tae (Choi Gwang-rok), for help, but no one believes her. When Gwi-ju arrives at the school, she runs and hides, but a teacher unintentionally locks the door, trapping her inside. She tries to call her uncle for help, but her phone dies. Her uncle attempts to go to her, but Il-hong deliberately stops him. Da-hae is terrified, trapped in a confined space.

In the past, Da-hae was locked in the fifth-floor storage room by her friends, who said she had to stay there until someone came for her. A fire broke out, and she was paralyzed by fear. In her panic, she sees Gwi-ju and tells him no one came for her and that she was trapped there during the fire. Gwi-ju mentions the fifth-floor storage room and says he feels he should be the one to save her.

Da-hae hopes that Gwi-ju is truly the person who saved her as the episode ends. For the first time in five episodes, Gwi-ju comes across as heroic.

<The Atypical Family, Episode 5 Memorable Quote>

"I feel like I should be the one... the one who saves Da-hae. I'll save you."

'At that moment, an unreasonable desire quietly surfaced. I hoped that this man was the one who saved me.'
