Queen of Tears: Episode 2 Recap
Hae-in sometimes can't remember what she did for periods ranging from 10 minutes to an hour. Her memory lapses cause her to miss important appointments, and her relationship with her husband deteriorates further.
Hae-in is shocked to be diagnosed with a terminal illness, specifically diffuse glioma. It’s a rare disease and the first known case in South Korea.
Her doctor explains, "The tumor cells have not formed a clear mass but are dispersed like a cloud among the brain nerves. It’s quite extensive."
Despite the alarming nature of her rare disease, which can cause hallucinations and personality disorders, Hae-in quickly regains her composure after an initial moment of panic.
Hyun-woo, who had grown to dislike his wife to the point of wanting a divorce, decides to treat her well upon learning that she has only a short time left to live. Since divorce and death are fundamentally different, he resolves to endure for three more months.
In the competitive Queens family, showing weakness is not an option. Even among siblings and parents, the weak are preyed upon.
Hae-in's mother files a lawsuit over a minor land encroachment by Queens Department Store, which Hae-in heads. This lawsuit against her daughter over a small piece of land highlights the ruthless nature of the family, showing no compassion even among blood relatives.
Hyun-woo supports Hae-in against her mother, breaking with his usual behavior. During a family dinner, he interrupts his mother-in-law, grabs his wife’s hand, and leaves with her.
Beom-ja, Hae-in's aunt, determined to get back at her ex-husband who had an affair with his secretary, emerges as a scene-stealing character delivering justice.
Hae-in’s cold and indifferent mother had another child. She blames Hae-in for the mysterious death of her other child, Su-wan. This unresolved family drama hints at deeper secrets yet to be revealed.
Hyun-woo, fearing that Hae-in might survive much longer than her three-month prognosis, falls asleep while researching diffuse glioma. Hae-in finds him and mistakenly believes he is researching ways to save her. She says, "Honestly, I doubted you. I thought you'd be happy if I said I was dying. Don’t worry! I will survive!"
Eager to catch Chairman Herman’s attention, Hae-in attends a party alone, where she encounters Eun-sung, a successful M&A expert and former Wall Street analyst. Hyun-woo arrives at the event and impresses everyone with his looks and eloquence. Eun-sung, who claims to have had a good past relationship with Hae-in, also shows up, creating a love triangle.
