Prince Neungyang (Kim Jae Won) and his cohorts find Kim Gae Shi (Kim Yeo Jin) sitting alone in an empty room and press the former court lady for Gwanghae (Cha Seung Won)'s whereabouts. She doesn't appear afraid at all and stares at the traitor without a word at knifepoint.
Gwanghae heartily asks Princess Jeongmyeong (Lee Yeon Hee) to take care of Joseon and his people. When a group of armies drops in without advance notice, Kang In Woo (Han Joo Wan) lets his arrest according to their promise in advance. The Princess wails miserably sending her brother.
Kim Ja Jeom (Jo Min Ki) lets Queen Inmok (Shin Eun Jung) announce to the public to begin to create a new era of King Injo (Kim Jae Won).
Gwanghae who is taken to the palace doesn't flinch when the new king rages against his political opponent. He calmly asks him to be a good king taking care of his people and the nation and he kneels down to the ground as a sign of surrender.
After his release, thanks to his son, Kang Joo Sun (Jo Sung Ha) waits for an opportunity to rise again gnashing his teeth with rage.
Kim Ja Jeom makes an introduction to Jo Yeo Jung (Kim Min Seo) to King Injo.
Inmok finally returns to the palace with her daughter in nine years since she was under house arrest but she is afraid of what would happen. Jeongmyeong's dislike of the new King is no secret.
While promising himself not to give up as he was told to do by the deposed king, Hong Joo Won (Seo Kang Joon) is informed about a royal command to close down Hawgidogam and arrest all the workers.
Kim Ja Jeom forces Gwanghae to confess a sin that the people in prison did not commit to giving some validity to the treason. He is not easily put out and sincerely hopes that they will endure brutal tortures. Jeongmyeong kneels down in front of the palace rebutting that they weren't in league with Qing and claiming their innocence.
As public feeling is excited over the new leader's excessive behaviors, Kim Ja Jeom persuades Injo to stand back and look objectively at the problem. Unable to control his anger, Injo grinds his teeth but he lets the workers release and drives Gwanghae into exile not to go against public sentiment.
Yi Icheom (Jung Woong In) feels the futility of life and power before he is killed. Kim Gae Shi smiles faintly looking up the sun ardently hoping that she can meet the king in whose cause she went to death again up there in the far-off future before she has her head cut off. Gwanghae who is locked in a room sheds big drops of tears calling her name.
Jeongmyeong sees Gwanghae off on the banishment inwardly calling him 'older brother' and she bows her head making herself a promise to achieve his dream and he watches until his sister moves far behind him. Gwanghae prays for the health and well being of his people and peace of the country from beyond the sea.
