Gwanghae (Cha Seung Won) asks, "I came here to get an opportunity. I wanted to ask you to be with me to bring the past back. What have you done behind me?"
"I am suspicious about you, Your Highness. Do you know the secrets of the late king's death? Do you know that you sat on the throne with dignity in return for his blood?" Yi Deok Hyeong (Lee Sung Min) answers the question honestly.
"Do you mean that Seonjo (Park Young Gyu) was poisoned to death? Have you believed that I killed my father by poison?" the King raves with eyes filmed over with tears.
Gwanghae found out the star-shaped marks on Kim Gae Shi (Kim Yeo Jin)'s wrist is totally aghast at the evidence of the poison.
Princess Jeongmyeong (Jung Chan Bi) dressed like a man sold into the sulfur mine slavery in Japan encounters serious wound because of the eruption of a volcano. Jeongmyeong barely escaped with her life thanks to Ja Kyung (Kang Chan Hee) rejects treatment for fear of her secret leaks out. The teenage girl facing being sold into sexual slavery by the owner of the mine reveals her identity.
The Princess shouts, "How dare you say such a thing to the Princess of the Joseon Dynasty?"
The miscreant employer laughs aloud, "Are you? I was almost completely taken in but I heard a rumor that Jeongmyeong was dead with Prince Yeongchang.
"Did you say that the Prince die? Don't you believe it! The child is in a place of exile. He couldn't be dead. Whoever heard of such a thing!" she retorts with a sharp remark.
"The boy was said to die slowly and painfully in the room heated very hot. The King of Joseon strangled him." the owner says to the wailing girl.
"It was you. How could you adjust my dress? You killed my father. How could you, even if you did for me?" Gwanghae says.
The devoted servant states, "That was the only way I could do. You must have lost your life if you didn't sit on the throne. I don't afraid of death. Other than that I'm not afraid of losing you in the world since I pledged allegiance to you. I wanted your wish to come true. Please listen to my last word. I will kill myself and let Yi ICheom (Jung Woong In) take his own life, too. I will remove all traces relative to the case. You have to keep your way and do what you must do. You have to kill Yi Deok Hyeong and the other people who know about the case to keep your place."
The King sheds tears but speaks with a serious face, "Answer me. Was it the same person with the man who informed the prophecy?"
Ja Kyung cuts a rope with a knife, "Listen to me! You have to hide somewhere about here until I persuade the owner not to sell you to a red-light district."
"Please kill me! I don't have any reason to live anymore." Jeongmyeong begs him.
"Hold on! You are slavery here like us whatever you were in the country. If I were you, I would survive to the last." he pitches the knife in front of her.
Kim Gae Shi orders Yi ICheom to kill himself before she takes her own life but he rather points knife to her throat saying that he will have it all.
Gwanghae tires to appease Yi Deok Hyeong explaining about someone pulls wires from behind to kill the last king and his brother and sister. But he gives a flat refusal to his suggestion saying that winning by any means necessary is tyranny and barbarism.
"I can't be with you and hold the same view at any price." the royalist says to the King arguing that he will protect the country and subjects even if he commits an injustice.
Gwanghae orders Gae Shi and ICheom to kill Deok Hyeong, "I will be on the same team with both of you. I will pretend to bow to the powerful man's will for a while. Both of you should help me to protect the Crown. I am not a human being but a king from now."
Hong Joo Won (Yoon Chan Young) blocks the ceremonial walk of the Gwanghae and shouts, "You don't deserve to be a king. Not all people here bow down to the ground because they regard you as a king. You have to pay for your crimes someday."
The King approaches the boy and admonishes sternly, "Your eyes smolder with anger. Rub my words into your mind. You need to learn how to fight down the powerless and worthless rage. I am willing to hear your words when you can stab me in the back." letting the royal bodyguards release the young boy.
Hong Joo Won clenches his fists with frustration.
Ja Kyung threatens the mine owner to help Jeongmyeong to stay the place and the Princess decides to live.
"Whatever you were in Joseon, you have to forget the past," he says.
"What? Was I a princess? Did you believe what I said?" she puts on a poker face.
"What is your name? You don't wanna tell me the name? If you don't mind, I will call you Hawi (means 'flower child'). It's the name of my late sister. You have survived to the last despite the volcano eruption, so your name is Hwai (means 'fire child')." he stares at the Princess who hesitates to answer.
The Princess smiles on the friend.
In the tenth year of the Gwanghae's accession, the King feels really great about the established Hawgidogam (a national R&D organization for a firearm). And Hong Joo Won (Seo Kang Joon) is lost in deep thinking.
Meanwhile, Ja Kyung (Gong Myeong) is desperately looking for Hwai (Lee Yeon Hee) just before another volcano eruption. He smiles at her helping a peer up in flames.
