Kim Gae Shi (Kim Yeo Jin) cries out lot saying she put Gwanghae (Cha Seung Won) in danger as he is facing a political crisis because of Jo Yeo Jung (Kim Min Seo) who knows that the King gave direction to the general to check out the lie of the land before he makes a decision between Ming and Qing. Gwanghae consoles the court lady with his warm heart and feels sorry for her in her trouble due to him. Gae Shi makes an effort to hold back her tears blaming herself who were greedy to stay with him.
The powerless king, who doesn't know if Princess Jeongmyeong (Lee Yeon Hee) is dead or alive, has no face to show to Hong Joo Won (Seo Kang Joon) returned safely to the country and, in any event, he who knows about his loyalty asks him not to feel guilty of committing faults which he hasn't.
Kim Ja Jeom (Jo Min Ki) pulls the wires behind Prince Neungyang (Kim Jae Won). The young ambitious man plans conspiracy showing the handwritten letter to key retainers and the senior statesmen level criticism at the present king in sympathy with their new leader. During the night of the long knives, the king decides to go down fighting not giving up easily to protect his people. Joo Won swears allegiance to himself and joins forces with his father and workers of Hawgidogam against the revolt.
Jeongmyeong woke up from long sleep worries about her brother although her life hangs by a thread. Jo Yeo Jung tears off her forum (coat-strings that tie the jeogori, the basic upper garment of the hanbok) violently and fetches it Kim Ja Jeom. He threatens Queen Inmok (Shin Eun Jung) to help the usurpation of the throne with the forum.
Gwanghae meets Kang In Woo (Han Joo Wan) to make an offer to save his sister from the political enemy and he accepts his proposal which will seriously threaten the leadership position.A man who is on the side of Kang Joo Sun (Jo Sung Ha) is appointed the general of Hullyeondogam (a central military camp in the later period of the Joseon Dynasty). The key retainers competitively bring their private army to take all the credit and Neungyang has no hesitation in accepting In Woo's offer. Ja Jeom has an uneasy feeling that something bad will happen to him and orders Yeo Jung to secretly move the Princess but it is too late. Joo Won successfully rescues Jeongmyeong and the two meet again dramatically.
Gwanghae feels apologetic to Gae Shi because he couldn't find a way to keep her but his old friend says that she has been very happy for him. They look into each other's eyes through tears.
Leaving the palace with a few armed guards, Gwanghae turns his head to look back at the old house hoping that the new king will govern the nation wisely. Neungyang and his troops trespass on the palace but they cannot find Gwanghae in presence of the king. Kim Ja Jeom looks hard at the new leader in silence cleaning blood off a sword.
