Kim Gae Shi (Kim Yeo Jin)'s trick is seen through and Gwanghae (Cha Seung Won) turns down her earnest request saying that he wants to take Princess Jeongmyeong (Lee Yeon Hee) by the hand not a political opponent but a sister but she is firm in her convictions. Tears in his eyes, the King says goodbye to the loyalist stroking away her tears.
The Princess asks Gwanghae about the year when her little brother was killed and she gets to know about the prophecy of Nam Sa Go.
Gwanghae lets Hawi blow her cover in front of people when the King holds a memorial service for ancestors and orders the replacement of embers throughout the country. Queen Inmok (Shin Eun Jung) wants her to leave the capital city through Hong Joo Won (Seo Kang Joon)'s father and Kang In Woo (Han Joo Wan)'s good offices, however, Joo Won persuades her earnestly presenting the white beads and Jeongmyeong vacillates between two opinions.
Gwanghae waits for his sister expecting her to open her heart on the day of the memorial service but she doesn't show up until the ceremony is almost over and disappointment is writ large on his face. He is on the point of preparing to light sulfur when Jeongmyeong walks in with other workers of Hawgidogam and he is greatly pleased.
In Woo is much pleased with the Princess rolled up in a ferry but Jeongmyeong gives the beads back saying she wants to stay in Hawgidogam as the master craftsman. It breaks his heart to see her choosing not him but his close friend again.
On the other hand, Joo Won cannot contain his joy to see the bracelet on Jeongmyeong's wrist.
Gwanghae lets Kang Joo Sun (Jo Sung Ha) persuade Westerners not to agree with dispatching troops as he hears the outbreak of war between Ming and Qing. Joo Sun maintains a seemingly amicable relationship with the King although he has aligned himself with Yi Icheom (Jung Woong In) who is fear in his life due to the rejected schemer.
The King almost falls off his chair when he hears that Prince Neungyang (Kim Jae Won), the oldest son of his half-brother, requests troops to be sent out on his knees outside Gyeongbokgung Palace.
